you had me at "free shipping"

I just got a nice email from Carla, who is opening up a new yarn store in Leesburg named Chez Casuelle. The grand opening is in May, and to celebrate, there will be a 20% off everything sale throughout the month of May. Spectacular! She says, "We have a huge selection of Lorna’s Laces, Schaefer hand-dyed cottons, Blue Heron, Malabrigo, Trendsetter, and Fiesta, as well as Judi & Co ribbons and purse kits, Prism, Colinette, Cherry Tree Hill, Interlacements, Mango Moon. …. And Addi needles. There are some sneak preview pics of the shop at the web site."

If Leesburg is too far away, don't fret! You can get your fix online. YAY!

Pimping chemo caps again

She knows a handmade cap is more than a head covering; it's also evidence of the good wishes of the person who made it.

``It's nice to know that somebody cares, somewhere,'' she said.

Read the entire article here about an amazing 11 year old girl who is creating caps for people in her community in Ohio. And after you read it, whip out your needles and some yarn and try your hand at knitting or crocheting a chemo cap. They're easy, inexpensive to make, not time consuming, and will mean a lot to someone who needs to know they're not fighting this awful disease alone. Find a ton of patterns here.

The Gold Coast Huggers will be happy to take your caps or yarn donations off your hands. Bring it on! If you're not nearby, why not start your own local chapter to help people in your town? Visit Head Huggers to find out how easy that is.

Tampa gets wise to knitting

There's a short article about Knit N' Knibble (a LYS in Tampa) and, humorously, notes a visit from "Debbie Stroller". HA!

Katie and I saw Debbie Stoller at Elegant Stitches in Miami for her Happy Hooker book tour a little over a week ago. If she comes to your town, GO! She's fun, upbeat, interesting, and chatty. One of the more enjoyable authors I have met in a long time. Look for her at your LYS!
