Purl Jam knit-a-thon

Hurricane Relief

Sunday, October 23rd 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Get sponsored to knit your day away and create projects for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Yarn Tree will open for one Sunday, so our community can come together to help those stricken by this awful disaster. Please have your friends and family sponsor your knitting by donating money for each row you knit that day. All money will be donated to the Red Cross and we will collect knitted blankets, hats, and scarves to send to those in need. We look forward to seeing you at this event!

For more info, you can also call the Yarn Tree or visit the store: 954.921.1160, 2000-3 Harrison St. Hollywood, FL 33020

If you want to participate, make sure to visit http://theyarntree.net to download your official sponsor sheet.

It's like I've said before, knitters have big hearts. Sarah, a way cool sister knitter, turned me on to this site, encouraging knitters to donate to relief efforts. As of today, the funds raised by generous knitters totals $54,911.15. check it out, even if you're not a knitty person. if you've been watching the news at all, it will lift your spirits. it's a nice change to see communities coming together when all that you normally hear about is communities tearing each other apart.

the elusive boy knitter

it seems that male knitters are everywhere right now. The summer issue of Knitty has a lot of cool boy-related knitting stories that i really enjoyed (of course i also enjoyed the patterns too!) I came across this article, "Men at Work: Knitting" and enjoyed it too. go boy knitters! (personally, i'm not forcing my husband to knit. what if he became obsessed with it too? that would seriously cut into my $$$ for my own yarn! we can't finance 2 stash piles!)
