Purls of Sunshine

I am happy to say there is a new knitting guild in Broward County (and that guild is lucky enough to have several Stitchin' Betties at the helm!) Here's the scoop:

* The guild's name will be The Purls of Sunshine
*Meetings will continue to be held at Tropical Yarns, the first Tuesday of each month - from 7pm-9pm
* Meetings will consist of show & tell, programs by fellow guild members and snacks and treats provided a selected guild member each month
* Officers are as follows:
Susan Ellingsworth - President
Lynn Everette-Lee - Vice President
Susan Chastain - Treasurer
Sarah Ellington - Secretary (a stitchin' betty!)
Ronnie Annati - Program director (a stitchin' betty!)
* Intial fee to join the guild will be $20 and dues will be $1 for each subsequent month in the year ($12/yr)
* Dues will be used towards obtaining guest speakers, covering expenses for charity shipping, etc
*Guild will be social and charity based (charities to be determined)
* A yahoo group has been established for guild members to use to communicate with fellow guild members -http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BrowardYarnSluts/

Comments:
Do you know of any local (Ft. Lauderdale) beginner knitting groups? I have attempted to learn from books but have trouble getting past the casting on. If only the books were 3-D.

Agree with the other comment. I can cast on, but then have trouble with the actual knit and purl stiches. Are there any beginning knitting groups around ft. lauderdale?
